Strøtanker om bæredygtighed

Amazon-området udgør verdens måske største grønne lunge, med en kolossal vigtighed for verdens biodiversitet og klimabalance. Men efter nogle få år, hvor skovfældningen så småt syntes at være ved at komme under kontrol, bliver der nu i et brasiliansk lovforslag lagt op til totalrydninger i hidtil uset omfang. Derfor har Awaaz har netop rundsendt denne opfordring til at stå bag en underskriftsindsamling om at få den nye lov omstødt:

The Brazilian Congress has just passed a catastrophic forestry bill that gives loggers and farmers free rein to cut down huge swaths of the Amazon. Now only President Dilma can stop it.

Fortunately, the timing is on our side – in weeks Dilma will host the world’s biggest environmental summit and insiders say she cannot afford to open it as the leader who approved the destruction of the rainforest. She’s facing mounting domestic pressure, with 79% of Brazilians rejecting this new bill. Now, if we join them we can turn up the global heat and push her to axe the bill, not the rainforest.

Awaaz har her til morgen sendt nedenstående opfordring til verden rundt at deltage i såkaldte flashmobs, systematiske opringninger til ansvarlige politikere på bestemte tidspunkter. Således vil en gruppe i dag samle sig for at ringe til vores hjemlige statsminister, udenrigsminister, miljøminister, klima- og energiminster kl. 12.18 på Kultorvet og kl. 18.12 på Rådhuspladsen.

Ordet er frit, men Awaaz lægger op til, at man opfordrer til en global klimaaftale, som er “FAB”ulous – Fair, Ambitiøs og Bindende.

Opfordringen kommer forud for FNs topmøde i morgen, hvor alt tyder på, at forhandlingerne om en klimaaftale her mindre end tre måneder får COP15 er kørt fast og i bedste fald leder til en unfair, uambitiøs og for de fleste lande ikke-forpligtende aftale.

The press is reporting that global climate talks are in a shambles and the UN summit on Tuesday is the only hope to revive them. This Monday, we’re flooding media and government office phone lines worldwide with a wake up call for leaders to act – with phone calls being made from over 2000 rallies, marches, meetings and “flashmobs” in public places across the planet, and by hundreds of thousands of us from home.
