Sustainable cities and innovation – Sustainable Development Dialogues 9, Rio+20, 18.06.2012.

Denne dialog er endnu ikke lagt ud på UN WebCast – men jeg går ud fra, at det sker på et tidspunkt, da jeg har set den real time, så den er blevet optaget. Men video-redigeringsholdet har tydeligvis været presset i de sidste døgn – der mangler for eksempel også pressekonferencer for de sidste to dialoger.

Som del af Rio+20-konferencenen afholdes der i dagene 16.-19. juni en meget spændende serie af Sustainable Development Dialogues, som prøver at nå ind til benet af begrebet bæredygtig udvikling.

Top 10 Recommendations

For hver af de 10 dialoger er der forud opstillet 10 anbefalinger, hvor dialogerne har til formål at indskrænke antallet til tre. Den ene anbefaling fastlægges ved online afstemning med inddragelse af de virtuelle deltagere (typisk mere end 1 mio. afgivne stemmer), den anden fastlægges af panelet ved dialogernes afslutning, den tredje afgøres ligeledes ved afstemning fra salen.

De 10 anbefalinger er:

◊ Plan in advance for sustainability and quality of life in cities.
◊ Promote opportunities for direct dialogues among government, citizens, enterprises, NGOs and schools.
◊ Cities and schools should develop networks to learn and work together towards sustainable development.
◊ Promote the active engagement of local communities to improve the physical and social environment in cities.
◊ Promote culture, diversity and creativity as a core element to build sustainable cities..
◊ Promote global standards of sustainability for cities.
◊ Support the role of sustainable cities as an open laboratory for innovation towards sustainable development.
◊ Promote the use of waste as a renewable energy source in urban environments.
◊ Local governments should ensure energy-efficient delivery of services and promote sustainable consumption.
◊ The design of urban spaces should take into account the empowerment of local communities.

Final recommendations

◊ Promote the use of waste as a renewable energy source in urban environments.

◊ Each head of state should identify a sustainable city to develop a network for knowledge sharing and innovation.
◊ Governments should channel resources to develop people-centered sustainable cities with timed and measurable goals, in such way that empowers local communities, promotes equality and accountability.

De i alt ti dialoger er en enestående mulighed for at høre begavede mennesker fra hele verden reflektere over bæredygtig udvikling – hvad det indebærer, og hvordan den kan implementeres.
